Our STORY

We are Luke & Cynthia Carpenter, on our wedding day in 2018. This was the 2nd time we’ve gotten married to each other – the 1st was in 1979. We grew up and met on Cape Cod, MA. Luke is a graduate of Massachusetts Maritime Academy and for his 1st career he was a Captain of tankers for 13 years. Once he decided he needed a home life, he trained and became a firefighter. He worked in the Seattle Fire Department for 10 years and then the Bainbridge Island Fire Department where he lived for over 30 years. When he retired in 2018, he was the Assistant Chief of the Department. Cynthia is an architect. She lived and practiced in Boston and Cape Cod for over 30 years and in 2017 moved out to Bainbridge Island to be with Luke. That cross country trip is recorded in our Journi blog: We’re on the Road to Somewhere…

For many years Luke had harbored the dream of moving onto a boat and traveling. After renovating our home we decided to sell it and purchase a 2001 48′ Kadey Krogen yacht. The boat was docked in Brunswick, GA. So, we sold a lot of our belongs, crammed the rest into a storage locker and set off on a drive across country with our 2 dogs: Annie – a 14 year old Cocker Spaniel and Lily – an 11 year old Tibetan Spaniel / Jack Russell mix, towing a 12′ U-Haul trailer filled with quartzite slabs and other things we thought we would need for our life on the boat. After 2 weeks on the road we moved onto her after moving the previous owner’s stuff off and headed to Stuart, FL (Kadey Krogen’s headquarters) to embark upon what would become a 6 month renovation project. Once complete, and after a bit of an hiatus due to the COVID shutdown, at the beginning of June we took off to explore.
